Gerald Smith was born in Eastern Pennsylvania about 40 miles North of Philadelphia. He grew up in what was then rural, Upper Bucks County. After high school Jerry attended Penn State University where he received his undergraduate degree and worked towards a Masters degree in Veterinary Science. After Penn State he moved to Philadelphia and received his Veterinary degree from University of Pennsylvania. After a couple of years in companion animal practice and marrying Caroline Ballard, also a Veterinarian, they established an all Feline Veterinary Practice in the suburbs of Northern New Jersey which Jerry and Caroline ran for sixteen years. Having been raised in the country, and feeling a bit adrift in suburbia, Caroline and Jerry started to look for a place which felt more like home. Vermont had that feel and over the course of a decade Jerry and Caroline worked towards being able to move to this area. Things finally came together in 2002 when the New Jersey Feline practice was sold and they could move to Vermont permanently. Since moving to Vermont Jerry has spent considerable time learning the real estate profession concentrating on the Buyer's side of the transaction. As when they owned the Veterinary practice Jerry feels that being honest, and willing to give as much time as it takes to get things right will result in happy clients and a successful business. Jerry spends his free time playing in the out of doors. He has been enjoying working on a forest parcel which Caroline and he purchased in 2003. He has also started to do some woodworking projects. Jerry is involved in local government through membership on the Hyde Park Planning Commission and the local Realtor board.
